Good 60 mile day today. Uphills weren’t as hard as I expected them to be. Beautiful scenery in the Appalachians. I crossed the AT (Appalachian Trail) today, and talked to a hiker who happened by. The last fifteen miles were all downhill and marvelous.
Arrived in Damascus, and it’s an amazing little town. It kinda centers around Appalachian Trail hikers, and a bicycle trail that the local establishments will shuttle you up to the top of, then it’s 17 mile joy ride down. I was having a little trouble finding a decent hostel. Crazy larry’s was highly recommended online, but when I went in and met him, I realized quickly that the name was appropriate, and this would not be a place I would like to stay. As I was about to start looking for another hostel on my list, I noticed a painted fence with the words broken fiddle hostel on it, and shortly after I opened the door to the fence, I realized I had found a really awesome place to stay for a much needed rest day!
